VENTO GONZÁLEZ

Biography

Biography

José Vento González (Quart de Poblet, Valencia, 11 January 1940 – Valencia, 21 March 2013), known artistically as Vento González, was a Spanish artist who combined figurative art with abstraction and developed his own artistic technique — cartonaje — based on a structural construction of the picture plane and the rhythmic superimposition of volumes.

Formal development

He trained in painting, sculpture, and intaglio engraving at the School of Fine Arts of San Carlos in Valencia, and also completed artistic ceramics studies at the School of Ceramics in Manises. That technical background informed a practice that moved between figurative art, abstraction, and a constructive understanding of the surface.

Institutional presence

He took part in national and international exhibitions, including the Barcelona Biennial, the National Fine Arts Salon in Madrid, Sala Parpalló in Valencia, ARCO Madrid, and exhibitions in France, China, and Germany. His work forms part of public collections including the National Library, the Museum of Vilafamés, and the Generalitat Valenciana.

Recognition and legacy

For decades he combined teaching in secondary education and at the Faculty of Fine Arts of San Carlos with artistic creation. After retiring in 2000, he devoted himself fully to painting, sculpture, drawing, and engraving. In 2014 he received an official tribute at the Gran Teatro Antonio Ferrandis, and in 2019 Quart de Poblet formally renamed a street as Calle del artista José Vento González.
